The North Sea Jazz Festival and Yamaha – partners in musical excellence and innovation

2015 sees the ‘biggest indoor jazz festival in the world’, the globally acclaimed North Sea Jazz Festival, marking 40 years of producing some of the best live music moments of all time.

Throughout much of this time Yamaha has been a powerful and creative instrument partner to the festival, and this year will see over 1000 musicians taking part in over 150 performances across thirteen stages and performing to a potential audience of 70,000 passionate music lovers.

This year there’s a wide range of international artists performing who choose to play Yamaha. They include Benjamin Clementine, Chick Corea, Jamie Cullum, John Legend and Emeli Sandé.

The scale of Yamaha’s instrumental and technical support at the event is as huge as it is varied, it includes 14 pianos including 10 Grands and 3 full size Concert Grands. And over 675 assorted percussion related products including 210 drumshells, 45 snare drums, a marimba and vibraphone.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary, we’ll be backstage with our Yamaha artists and many other musicians producing a documentary of the event, combining interviews with an intimate ‘behind the scenes’ insight into the organization of a musical event of such scale. There’ll be lots of exclusives and we’ll be posting regular updates, so make a note to stay in tune with our social media pages for breaking news.

The first North Sea Jazz Festival took place in 1976 when there were just six venues, three hundred artists and around 9,000 visitors. The inaugural festival featured Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz and Sarah Vaughan, who performed alongside a wide range of local artists. The event was an immediate success, with its intimate and relaxed atmosphere connecting with fans and artists alike.
