Hamburg's historic Laeiszhalle sets the stage for Maria João Pires and Yamaha's CFX

The combination of Maria João Pires, Yamaha CFX and the exceptional acoustic of Hamburg's beautiful Laeiszhalle was always going to prove an inspiring and exciting prospect for the city's discerning classical music lovers.

The sense of anticipation was almost tangible as one of the greatest pianists in the world took to the Laeiszhalle stage in June to perform a programme of Schubert and Debussy.  Maria João Pires surpassed all expectations with an exquisite performance that astounded and delighted the capacity audience, winning a thoroughly deserved standing ovation. For this important recital Pires once again selected Yamaha's flagship CFX concert grand piano, a choice that is becoming increasingly regular for her performances around the world.

Maria João Pires is widely acclaimed as a pianist of extraordinary ability who combines exceptional stylistic refinement with a passion for exploring the intellectual and spiritual qualities of music. She displays a remarkable affinity with many of the great composers, including Bach, Mozart, Chopin and Schubert. She is also a prolific recording artist, having released many award winning CDs.

Opened in 1908, Hamburg's Laeiszhalle is regarded as the grandest and most modern concert venue in Germany, and the Yamaha CFX embraced the sublime acoustic of the hall with sensitivity and power. Maria João Pires praised the instrument with characteristic conciseness: "Wonderful", she said of the CFX after the concert.
