Innovation that inspires

To create a trumpet range that would inspire players throughout the world, Yamaha looked at every aspect of their current line-up. The finest details were examined, redesigned, tested and tested again. Making use of Yamaha’s unique resources, after years of development, Yamaha proudly presents one of the most significant developments in the history of trumpet making. The new Xeno Trumpet Series.

The aim was simple, Yamaha wanted to redevelop the Xeno series of trumpets to give modern players the best possible instrument. This, was not an easy task.

By combining Yamaha’s global R&D network with some of the world’s best instrument technicians and of course, by working with the world’s best trumpet players, Yamaha have been able to make some significant changes to the Xeno series by looking at the smallest details.

When the project began over 3 years ago, our designers first started by speaking to trumpet players from around the world to find out what their needs were. After carefully studying the information they received they came to the conclusion that there were three major targets that needed to be achieved.

Outstanding response across the dynamic range

From a playability point of view, the new generation of Xeno trumpets needed to have a better and lighter response with control in all dynamics without losing its versatility.

A new piston and valve casing concept has been implemented that has optimised the way the new Xeno trumpet series performs.

This concept offers a faster response, and with changes to the piston port angle, Yamaha have also changed the angle of the ‘knuckle bend’ to ensure that the resistance is perfectly balanced.

By making changes to the water key, Yamaha have been able to further enhance the response of the instrument giving players an instrument with outstanding response across the dynamic range.

Strong presence with a centred tone

The new sound concept envisaged a more centred tone with a very strong presence and enhanced projection. To achieve this, Yamaha examined the bell and on the new Xeno series have incorporated a redesigned bell taper.

In addition to this, Yamaha have added a button to the 1st valve tuning slide. This may seem like a small change, but this has a big impact on the tone of the instrument and is something that went through rigorous testing.

A performance trumpet with the perfect tone colour

The new instruments also needed a tonal colour that combined warmth and clarity. This was something that discerning players were demanding. By reviewing the lead-pipe, one of the most important parts of the instrument, Yamaha were able to achieve this. The lead-pipe is where the connection is made between the player and the instrument and is integral to ensuring the instrument conveys everything that the player wants it to.

On both the standard models and reverse type models in the new series, Yamaha have changed the yellow brass material. As a result, the new Xeno series has a clear, yet warm tone colour.

With all of these great features and variations, the new Xeno series offers serious trumpet players a wide range of instruments to choose from. To find the right Xeno for you, speak to your local brass dealer and book a test session today.
