'A Night in Vienna' in Spain starring Maria-João Pires, the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra and Yamaha CFX

Maria-João Pires is one of the world's most popular pianists and a prolific recording, performing and teaching tour de force. She is renowned for her characteristically thoughtful performances and is without doubt one of the most celebrated pianists of our generation.

Recently she took to the stage in Spain with the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra for a series of performances themed 'A Night in Vienna', which visited Madrid, Barcelona, Zaragoza and Oviedo.

During the series Maria-João Pires performed a wide-ranging repertoire including Haydn's Symphony No. 101 (‘The Clock’), Mozart's Symphony No. 41 (‘Jupiter’) and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 2. For all the recitals she selected a Yamaha CFX concert grand piano.

Commenting on her choice of piano, Maria-João Pires said, "The CFX is capable of both profound bass, powerful fortissimo, but also delicate lyrical passages. Being able to control a subtle touch is important and with this piano I can create beautiful colours – it also has exceptional power."
