Hamamatsu, Japan ― Yamaha Corporation announces that its FGDP-50 and FGDP-30 finger drum pads have been selected for the Bronze Award at the DFA Design for Asia Awards 2025. This is the third design award that the FGDP-50 and FGDP-30 have won since their release, following the Good Design Award (2024) and the Red Dot Design Award (2025).

“This marks our second consecutive year of winning this award, following last year’s Bronze Award for YH-5000SE (2024),” said Manabu Kawada, senior general manager of Yamaha Design Laboratory. “We have designed unique pad layouts tailored for finger-based playing techniques by miniaturizing a full-body acoustic drum set. We hope these little instruments help to expand the new music scene.”

Yamaha has received a total of fifteen DFA Design for Asia Awards, including the Grand Award for its SILENT Brass™ in 2014, its YEV Electric Violin in 2017, its YDS-150 Digital Saxophone in 2021, and its YVS-140 Venova™ Casual Wind Instrument in 2022, as well as the Grand Award with Special Mention for its Venova™ Casual Wind Instrument in 2018.

These new-generation instruments make it easy to enjoy playing authentic drums with your fingers. The lightweight, compact bodies are equipped with a speaker, tone generator, and rechargeable lithium-ion battery, allowing users to play anytime, anywhere. The ergonomic layouts of the pads are optimized for finger drumming, ensuring maximum playability and precision. Additionally, they are fine-tuned for hardness and sensitivity, enabling users to express subtle variations in sound dynamics and perform advanced techniques like flams and rolls with ease. Since their release, these finger drum pads have been widely embraced as a new style of drumming.

The DFA Design for Asia Awards is a Hong Kong Design Centre program that was launched in Hong Kong in 2003 to celebrate design excellence and acknowledge outstanding designs from Asian perspectives. DFA awards are presented to companies and designers whose superior work reflects Asian lifestyles and who are influential in the design field. In addition to the top prize, the Grand Award, three other special awards, the Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Merit Awards are presented to winners chosen from a total of six design disciplines. In 2025, a total of 254 awards were presented, including 10 Grand Awards.
