The YPC-87R is a slight departure from previous Yamaha piccolos in that it delivers a bright, agile, cheerful tone. Intonation and articulation are accurate as always, with outstanding playability and control on pianissimo passages and in the high register.

Thicker body walls help to maintain a bright tone with deep resonance, while a redesigned bore taper helps to achieve a solid tonal core even in soft passages. Excellent playability and broad expressive capability are available right up to the highest notes.

Pointed Key Arms
Traditional French style pointed key arms add sophisticated appearance and feel.
Straubinger™ Piccolo Pads
Straubinger piccolo pads are employed in a Yamaha piccolo for the first time, providing an excellent seal and clear response that bring out the instrument’s full tonal potential. In addition to improved note clarity and breath response, these pads offer excellent long-term shape retention and durability.
New Head Joint Design (YPC-87)
Extensive trial-and-error refinement has led to a new head joint design with a slightly squared blowhole shape that offers easier high-range and pianissimo playability.
Wave-shape Blowhole
The area of the head joint surrounding the blowhole features a wave shape that improves attack definition, response, and overall playability.
