Stefanos Andreadis

Stefanos Andreadis was born in Athens where he studied guitar, harmony, counterpoint, fugue, jazz improvisation, Byzantine theory. He obtained a Diploma in composition with honours at the Conservatory of Piraeus. After a 12 year period as a teacher of theory and jazz guitar, he won a study leave, by the Greek Ministry of Education, to study in Nottingham with Dr. Nicholas Sackman.

He obtained the AmusM (Master of Musical Arts) and the AMusD (Doctor of Musical Arts-2005) in Composition. Many of his compositions have already been performed in Athens, Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Patras, Corfu as well as in the U.K (Birmingham, Nottingham) and Bulgaria.

He was awarded with the ‘Hallward prize 2002-2003 for Musical Composition’ (UK) and was a finalist in the ‘Auros’ International Competition 2003(U.S.A.). With his string quartet Nr 2 ''Klimax'', Stefanos took an honorary award in the 2nd Pan-Hellenic composition competition of chamber music (Athens-2004). The same piece was selected by the famous 'Kreutzer string quartet' in a workshop at the C.B.S.O center (Birmingham-March 2005). With the chamber work Melos I, Stefanos gained an honorary award in the 3rd Pan-Hellenic composition competition of chamber music (Athens-2005). Klimax and Melos I have been published.

He has received commissions from the Greek composers union, Athens Megaron org, London Sinfonietta, University of Nottingham and the orchestra of the Municipality of Patras.

As a jazz guitarist, he has been involved in many concerts and international festivals in Athens, making recordings for Radio and television programs. He teaches jazz guitar, jazz theory and composition in the Music Department at Ionian University in Corfu-Greece, and at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory in Corfu. He is a member of Greek composers Union and an active jazz guitarist performing regularly with the Flying Jazz group (Jazz Faculty of the Ionian University). Stefanos is in studio with the famous organ/piano player George Kontrafouris, Alexander Ktistakis (drummer) and Dimos Dimitriadis (saxophonist) making recordings for his second personal album.
