FRANCESCO TRISTANO INTERVIEW

FRANCESCO TRISTANO INTERVIEW

Hello there, my name is Francesco Tristano. I am a pianist, composer and producer. The piano is my primary instrument, and my keyboards, synths and drum machines are always close to hand. I am interested in Bach and classical music, as well as electronic music. Sometimes the two converse, often they converge.

How would you normally create music and connect with your audience?

Creating music does not immediately equate to connecting with the audience. There is a process involved – it usually starts with a pencil and a piece of paper. The stage is, or used to be, where the connection with the audience starts, and, in the best case, magic happens.

Technology and social networks allow a wide audience to be reached with whom the artist can interact. How has your experience been collaborating with the #YamahaLiveFromHome initiative?

It was very pleasant. I don't think live video streams should substitute live concerts – can they ever? It is a different media or realm altogether, and we are only just starting to explore its possibilities. Do they have a soul? Time and progress will tell. Connecting with a wide, global audience a click away is certainly wondrous.

What's the role of music in your life?

Music has always been around. I can't imagine life without it.

Thanks to the Internet, today we have an unlimited choice of videos, music and educational material. Sometimes we face the so called "paradox of choice", making it difficult to focus and select want we want to study, listen to and play. What would you recommend to music lovers to improve their knowledge?

Be aware of fake news! Some ads promise you can learn to play the piano in three weeks. I started learning the piano when I was five years old, and I am still learning to play the piano. . . Follow artists, brands or programmes you feel are original, and that bring something original to your learning process.
