Award Winning Cornet Player Kirsty Abbotts Chooses Yamaha Neo

Highly regarded cornet player Kirsty Abbotts, principal cornet of Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Brass Band, has selected a Yamaha Neo Cornet choosing the yellow brass bell version.
Kirsty, who is known for her beautiful, lyrical sound, has an outstanding reputation as one of the leading cornet players in the world.
Having been involved in music from a young age, her passion for brass bands started at the age of nine when she started playing with Shipston Town Junior Band. Progressing through the ranks of the junior band, she quickly became principal cornet of the main band leading them to two National Finals in the First Section whilst also being a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
At the age of 17, Kirsty took her studies to the University of Huddersfield where she studied cornet under the guidance of Phillip McCann obtaining an LTCL Diploma (Licentiate of the Trinity College, London) in Performance, BA (Hons) in Music and a Masters Degree in Musical Performance.
During her time at university, Kirsty joined the Sellers College Band on cornet before a move to flugel horn. After two successful years on flugel, Kirsty moved back to cornet and was soon appointed to the position of principal.
During her 13 years at Sellers Kirsty won a number of awards before leaving to join Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band where she has been ever since.
In her position as principal cornet at the band, Kirsty has gone on to win a number of prizes including the best soloist award at the 2013 Brass in Concert championships for her performance of ‘Papa Can’t You Hear Me?’.

Speaking about the Neo cornet on a recent visit to Yamaha’s Atelier in Hamburg, Kirsty stated:
"From the first time of playing the yellow brass Neo cornet I instantly loved it.  The cornet has such a clear sound throughout all ranges, a beautiful, rich tone complete with exceptional tuning and intonation. It is easily the most responsive and versatile cornet I have ever played."
Thomas Lubitz, Yamaha’s R&D Manager in Europe stated:
"Kirsty has such a beautiful sound and is one of the most respected cornet players around. We’re delighted that she has found the right cornet in Yamaha’s Neo range and we’re honoured to be working with her."
