Jeroen Berwaerts Shines at His Opening Performance of Gruber’s ‘Busking’
On 3rd June 2014, the internationally renowned trumpet soloist and Yamaha Artist, Jeroen Berwaerts, gave his first performance of HK Gruber’s concerto “Busking” with Ensemble Resonanz in the Laeiszhalle, Hamburg, Germany.
Gruber´s concerto is a highly virtuosic piece with an unusual mix of instruments including trumpet, accordion, banjo and strings. Known as one of the most difficult pieces in the trumpet repertoire, one of the biggest challenges is that the soloist has to change instrument for each movement.
As a Yamaha artist, Jeroen Berwaerts performs on a wide range of Yamaha trumpets and during this piece played on the following instruments:
1st Movement – Eb-Trumpet YTR-9630
2nd Movement - Flugelhorn YFH-8310ZG
3rd Movement - XENO C-Trumpet YTR-8445
Jeroen’s performance was outstanding with both the audience and critics astounded by the high level of musicianship on display and entranced by the beauty of tone, full of spirit and warmth.
In addition to the Gruber Concerto this inspired programme also included Rameau Dances and Jacques Brel Chansons in which Berwaerts also showed his talents as a great singer.
There is another opportunity to hear Jeroen Berwaerts with HK Gruber´s concerto at 4th August in Bregenz Festspielhaus however, before that, Jeroen Berwaerts is going to Japan where he will once again perform Toshio Hosokawa’s new trumpet concerto Im Nebel, which was awarded the Otaka Prize for best orchestral work of the year in Tokyo.
Last September, Jeroen Berwaerts gave the world premiere with the Tokyo Philharmonic and has since performed the work with the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg and Kiel.
