Biography

José Cháfer Mompó was born in l’Olleria. He began his studies at the Musical Society of his town and continued at the Conservatorio Profesional of Onteniente, where received the title of Professor of Trumpet and Honors. His trumpet teachers have included Jose Maria Ortí, Angel Millan, Pierre Thibaud, Claude Vasse, Thomas Stevens, Vicente Campos, Mario Guarneri, Otto Sauter, Gabrielle Cassone and Ole Edvard Antonsen. In 1998, he finished his higher studies at the Conservatory of Music “Manuel Massotti Littel” de Murcia with the highest ratings.

José has been invited to perform with the Symphony Orchestras of Madrid and Barcelona. He has also worked extensively with the Symphony Orchestra of Murcia as solo trumpet, recording live for RNE on numerous occasions. 

He has been invited by Spanish Brass to perform concerts in the Canary Islands and Barcelona. He was also invited to present a recital in the First Cycle of Young Interpreters of the Spanish Brass Festival in Alzira, as well as to play with the Faculty Brass Ensemble. 

In October 2003, he was a semifinalist in the 5th International Trumpet Maurice Andre Competition in Paris.



He has been Professor of Trumpet of the 8 editions of the International Course of Music “Vila de L’Ollería” (CIMVO), conducted since 2004 with German Brass, Mnozil Brass, Belgian Brass, Bones Apart, Enrique Crespo, Oystein Baadsvik, Eric Terwilliguer, Wolfang Gaag, Jessica Buzzbe and Tim Buzzbe, Eric Aubier, Uwe Koeller, Gabriele Cassone, Manu Mellaerts, Ruben Marques and Rex Richardson, and for which he has been Artistic Director since 2005. He has also been invited to present master classes throughout Europe: in Spain (Granada, Vitoria, Almeria, Denia, Caudete, Albaida, …), Belgium (Brussels), Switzerland (Geneva) and USA (Virginia Commonwealth University, Grand Valley State University)

In 2007, Mr. Mompó served as a juror for the Trumpet Contest of Benidorm,with Maurice Andre and other major personalities from the world of the trumpet. He is a member of Collage Brass Ensemble and Solo Trumpet with the Symphony Orchestra of the Teatro Chapí de Villena.

Since 2002, he has served on the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts; and since 2004 he has taught at the High Conservatory of Music “Manuel Massotti Littel” to Murcia.
