Thank you for purchasing the Yamaha MODX M Series, Music Synthesizer.

This Readme file contains important information about the MODX M6 / MODX M7 / MODX M8 V3.00 Operating System update and the updating process. 
Please read this document carefully before updating your MODX M synthesizer.


NOTICE:
- This updater is only for the MODX M synthesizer.
- This updater is to be used at the user's own risk.
- All User memory (Library data, User data, User sample and so on) will be initialized by this updater. Please make sure that you have saved all User data to a USB flash drive before performing this update. 
- The unit may become inoperable if the electrical supply is interrupted while running the updater (by disconnecting the AC cord, etc.). If this happens, run the updater again from the first step. 
- If the unit does not function after running the updater, please contact your nearest Yamaha service center.

This update is applicable to the following version: 
MODX M6 / MODX M7 / MODX M8 with firmware versions earlier than V3.00


How to check the version of your MODX M

1. Press the [UTILITY] button to open the Utility display.
2. Touch [Settings] tab -> [System] tab at the left side of the display.
3. The following message appears at the bottom of the display:

The unit's version is indicated by "MODX M Firmware Version : *.**.*"
Only the numbers up to the two decimal places after the first dot are important in reading the version number, you can ignore the numbers after the second dot. 
Ex.) 1.00.2 = 1.00 ,  1.10.1 = 1.10


Updating Procedure

  NOTICE: 
     All User memory (Library data, User data, User sample and so on) will be initialized by this updater. 
     Please make sure that you save all User data to a USB flash drive before performing this update. 

  Required Items
   - One USB flash drive of over 8GB capacity formatted on the MODX M 

1. After downloading, copy the following uncompressed files to a USB flash drive that has been formatted on the MODX M. No other files should be present on the USB flash drive. 
    9C64OS_.PGM

2. Power off the MODX M.

3. Connect the USB flash drive prepared in step 1 to the [USB TO DEVICE] terminal of the MODX M. Power on the MODX M while holding down the [Cursor UP] and [UTILITY] buttons until the "YAMAHA" logo appears on screen.
   At this time, please do not press buttons other than [Cursor UP] or [UTILITY] buttons.

4. The MODX M OS updater will begin with the message "Waiting for USB storage ..." and "MODX M6/7/8 updater *.**.*".
When the message "Update completed." appears, turn off the MODX M and remove the USB flash drive.

WARNING: 
DO NOT power off or remove the USB flash drive from the MODX M until the "Update completed." message appears. If power is accidentally interrupted while running the updater (by disconnecting the AC cord, etc.), the unit may become inoperable. If this happens, run the updater again. If the unit still does not function after doing this, please contact your nearest Yamaha service center.

5. Power on the MODX M.

6. Execute the "Initialize All Data" function ([UTILITY] > [Settings] > [System]).

This completes the update process.
