About Electric Violins

About electric acoustic violins, electric violins, and Silent Violins

The violin is an instrument used not only for classical music but also for various genres of music. The electric acoustic violin and the electric violin, connected to an amplifier, can be played together with other electric instruments, extending violin's range of expression. The Silent Violin allows you to play anywhere, anytime due to its great portability.

New innovative violins: Electric violins and electric acoustic violins

Yamaha's newly-developed electric violin features a wide variety of expressive tones from loud to delicate sounds, produced by directly catching the string vibrations using the same number of pickups as there are strings. Since it also comes in various colours, you can choose according to the music you play and the concert's atmosphere. Meanwhile, our electric acoustic violin precisely picks up the delicate sounds of the acoustic violin with its recently-developed special pickups, and can also be used with common PA systems.

Any of these violins is suitable for bands of musical genres other than classical music, such as jazz and rock, which are becoming more popular lately. Our electric violin, EV-205PR, in particular, has been modified to a five-string violin by adding a C-string to the normal four-string violin. The extended range has provided a wider range of expression for sessions with guitars and drums.

Start the violin casually, and learn with fun!

The Silent Violin allows you to produce sound with a relatively easy bowing technique. Since the instrument has adjusters (assistive devices for very small pitch adjustments) on the tailpiece making it easy to adjust the strings, it is ideal for those who are trying to start learning the violin. The same wooden material as the acoustic violin is used for the neck and fingerboard, and the strings and bridge are also from the acoustic violin, which enables you to easily move from the violin to the acoustic one.

Because some models have input terminals in addition to output terminals, you can connect the instrument to a CD/MD player as well as to headphones or speakers. You can enjoy practising it with a musical accompaniment that enhances the atmosphere.
