About Electric Basses

About Electric Basses

Yamaha bass guitars have provided the low-end for countless tours and hit albums with artists like Nathan East, Billy Sheehan, Michael Anthony and John Pattitucci depending on their Yamaha basses to deliver the goods.

Premium construction, player-focused features and a constant focus on the best sound and playability keep Yamaha basses at the head of the pack.

Electronics

Yamaha basses feature custom designed pickups and EQ circuits optimized to give the ultimate tone. From vintage-inspired passive models with custom wound single coil pickups built for a raw natural sound, to cutting edge active models with 3-band EQ and on-board piezo pickups for immense versatility, outstanding control and low noise.

Scale length

With a huge difference in feel and sound thanks to a change in the distance from the nut to the bridge (scale length), Yamaha offers different models to suit different sounds and applications. The BB and RBX series use a standard 34” scale for comfortable feel and thick, powerful sound while the RBX4A2M offers a 32.5” medium scale – slightly shorter for increased accessibility and a clearer, punchier sound that cuts through a mix with ease – amazing for smaller players or guitarists wanting to branch out into bass as well as bass players simply looking for something a bit different. The TRB series uses a longer, 35” scale – offering thicker, fuller extreme low end, perfectly suited to the low B string on TRB 5 and 6-string models.

Neck joints

Crucial to the stability and tone of an instrument, the neck joint helps define the character of a bass. Bolt-on necks provide easy adjustability, together with a bright, punchy sound while through-necks emphasise low-frequency response and offer the ultimate in sustain for a huge, thick sound.
