About Acoustic Guitars

Yamaha acoustic guitars combine the best premium woods and components, traditional design and craftsmanship and cutting edge technologies to make incredible instruments designed and built to give the player more.

Constantly striving to build the best possible guitar, whatever price-point it fits in, the focus is always on building in features that make a real difference, not just add a specification. Sound and playability are always at the forefront of our acoustic guitar design and the key features built in from the earliest stage only make it to the final spec if they make the guitar better for the player.

Premium tonewoods

Crucial to an acoustic guitar’s sound, the first stage of building the guitar – selecting the materials - is one of the most important.

Using select tonewoods from responsibly managed forests, Yamaha acoustics use woods that simply sound better. Solid woods are used where they can offer a real performance advantage - the smoother, more balanced sound with improved projection that they should – not just to bolster specification. First and foremost in our wood selection, whether on an F310 or an LL36, is the need to make the best sounding guitar possible. Our luthiers travel the world tracking down the finest materials to build a better sounding guitar – whether it’s £100 or £1000.

Ultra-thin finishes

Vibration of the body woods is the core of an acoustic guitar sound. While a protective, decorative high-gloss finish is extremely desirable, if the finish is too thick, it will dampen the wood’s vibrations and deaden the sound. Yamaha uses advanced finishing technology to ensure an ultra-thin finish that allows the wood to vibrate freely while still providing a stunning glossy finish.

Thinner back & sides

Thinner back & sides materials allow the guitar to resonate more freely for faster response, greater volume and increased dynamics.

Dovetail neck joint

The joint between neck and body is crucial, both for strength and stability and for great tone.

All Yamaha acoustics feature the same hand-fitted dovetail neck joint – regardless of price. A precision, hand-shaped joint with maximum wood to wood contact and no metal parts, this method of guitar construction provides the strongest possible connection between neck and body and allows the 2 parts to become like one, resulting in the best tone and greater sustain.

Yamaha setup

Every Yamaha acoustic receives the same pro-spec setup – with every string played on every fret. Stringent quality control steps ensure that finish, sound and action are all within tight tolerances and nothing short of perfect out of the box.

The latest technology

While respecting traditional designs and craftsmanship all the way, Yamaha acoustics employ the latest technology to build a better guitar for the player. Whether that’s high-tech UV finish curing for a thinner finish or the latest ARE wood treatment technology to make a brand new guitar sound like its 15 years old, it’s all with one thing in mind – building a better sounding, better playing guitar.
