In the following interview Nathan East looks back on his one-of-a-kind musical career, starting as a young bassist in his church to becoming one of the most demanded bass players worldwide. Yamaha basses have accompanied Nathan along his successful journey that is now lasting for over 30 years.
It was during recordings with Abe Laboriel in 1981 when Nathan East made first contact with Yamaha basses. Abe hooked Nathan up with a Yamaha BB3000 in sunburst for his gig in Tokyo with Lee Ritenour. “I walked right on stage with that bass,” recalls East. “I played it straight out of the box, with no tweaks, no setup – nothing. That bass was perfect”. This day marked the start of a more than 30 year lasting relationship between Nathan East and Yamaha.
The current Yamaha BB basses have maintained the high standard of quality that Nathan he experienced back in the 80`s: consistent craftsmanship on all models, unique features and incredible sound.
To thank Nathan for his support and to honour his achievements during the past 30 years Yamaha has currently given him the Lifetime Achievement Award. Being his no.1 choice of basses we are proud to be part of Nathans career and look forward to many more great years to come.
